The Temple of Kriya Yoga Seminary

You may have heard me mention that I am in a Seminary program. If so, you might wonder what that is, people have asked, so I thought I would explain.

Almost three years ago, I was working in medical billing, which I hoped to do part time to supplement my “real” work. I decided that to keep up with my yoga study, I would join the Seminary Program. Through The Temple of Kriya Yoga, I had previously taken a 200 hour, one year Meditation Teacher Training, and it was one of the best years of my life. (Future blog post!)
The Seminary program covered such topics and Sanskrit, Yoga Philosophy, Practices, and History, Astrology, Symbolism, Comparative Religions, the function of the priesthood, and more.

I wanted to deepen my study and learn additional ways to serve. As some of you know, last year, I worked with teens, both at Vista Maria and Inkster High, teaching yoga through the Community Yoga Outreach Program. Once I finish Seminary, I will try to work in Hospice, ideally sitting with people, possibly doing guided visualizations and meditations and/or Reiki. I am not sure how I will do, but I’d like to give it a try.

The Seminary is a home study course supported by retreats and conference calls. I read many books, listened to hours of audio, and answered questions based on the material. I have completed my work and am now studying for the two hour oral conference call exam. If/when I pass, I will attend a retreat where I will participate in a ritual of ordination as a swami of The Temple of Kriya Yoga.

From this training, I could perform rituals like house blessings, baptisms, marriages; I could teach, which I already do, of course; I could serve deeper and more skillfully, which I hope to try to cultivate.

If you have any questions about it, or want to know more, please email or message me!

Shanti,

Carrie
